テキスト『医療通訳』の単語集を自分のものにしよう・第5回 — 関節・骨各部位

オリジナルの単語集を確認

まず、テキスト『医療通訳』の単語集から「関節・骨各部位」の英語の部分を抜きだしてみましょう。「重複」という項目を今回はもうけました。そして、第1回〜第4回にすでにでているものにチェックをいれました。

すでにでているものが10語もあることがわかります。この単語集の構成がテキスト『医療通訳』の人体器官図に対応しているためで、一部の器官・部位が2つの図にまたがってでているのでこういった重複がおこっています。この対応関係は、人体器官図と単語集が巻頭と巻末にはなれて記載されているので、ややわかりにくと感じる方もいるかとおもいます。

人体器官図についても英単語を直接書きこんでしまったほうが使いやすそうです。単語集は単語集で「自分のもの」にしていくプロセスで、順番の整理や、分類の調整など、合理化していくことが必要なのではないでしょうか。

先ほど指摘したオリジナルの単語集にあった重複分については、削除してあります。ただし、ここらへんは、それぞれの「自分のもの」にしていくなかで、自分で決めていけばいいとおもいます。

The prominent bony projection on the medial side is the medial epicondyle of the humerus. ep(i)-: ギ「上」「追加」. 内側上顆には、上腕骨内側上顆と大腿骨内側上顆（medial condyle of the femur）がある. ラテン語名の使用頻度は低い.
The elbow joint is formed by the articulation between the trochlea of the humerus and the trochlear notch of the ulna, plus the articulation between the capitulum of the humerus and the head of the radius. trochlear notch: 滑車切痕［かっしゃせっこん］. capitulum of the humerus: 上腕骨小頭［じょうわんこつしょうとう］
The olecranon forms the bony tip of the elbow, and bursitis here is also known as “student’s elbow.” crani(o)-: ギ→ラ「頭蓋」 olecranon bursitis: 肘頭滑液包炎［ちゅうとうかつえきほうえん］.
The nerves connected to the spinal cord are the spinal nerves. 脊髄（spinal cord）からのびている31対の神経をさす. 複数形であらわされることがおおい.
The softer connective tissue that fills the interior of most bone is referred to as bone marrow. connective tissue: 結合組織［けつごうそしき］.
The vertebral column—also known as the spinal column or spine—consists of a sequence of vertebrae (singular = vertebra), each of which is separated and united by an intervertebral disc. vertebraの複数形はvertebrae.
As the vertebral column grows, these nerves grow with it and result in a long bundle of nerves that resembles a horse’s tail and is named the cauda equina.
The sciatic nerve extends across the hip joint and is most commonly associated with the condition sciatica, which is the result of compression or irritation of the nerve or any of the spinal nerves giving rise to it. sciatic nerve: 坐骨神経［ざこつしんけい］. sciatica: 坐骨神経痛［ざこつしんけいつう］.
The femoral head fuses between the ages of 14–17 years. ラテン語名の使用頻度は低い. fuse: （動詞）癒合する.
The lesser trochanter is the first to fuse, doing so at the onset of puberty (around 11 years of age), followed by the greater trochanter approximately 1 year later. lesser trochanter: 小転子［しょうてんし］.
While both menisci are free to move during knee motions, the medial meniscus shows less movement because it is anchored at its outer margin to the articular capsule and tibial collateral ligament. men(o)-: ギ「月経（期間）」. men(0)-は月から来ている. menisci: meniscusの複数形. medial meniscus: 内側半月［ないそくはんげつ］. articular capsule: 関節包［かんせつほう］. tibial collateral ligament: 内側側副靭帯［ないそくそくふくじんたい］.
The fibular collateral ligament (lateral collateral ligament) is on the lateral side and spans from the lateral epicondyle of the femur to the head of the fibula. fibular collateral ligament: 腓骨側副靱帯［ひこつそくふくじんたい］. lateral collateral ligament: 外側側副靱帯［がいそくそくふくじんたい］.
The articulating surfaces of the bones at a synovial joint are not directly connected to each other by connective tissue or cartilage. synovial joint: 滑膜性関節［かつまくせいかんせつ］.
Inside the knee are two intracapsular ligaments, the anterior cruciate ligament and posterior cruciate ligament. intracapsular ligament: 関節包内靱帯［かんせつほうないじんたい］. anterior cruciate ligament: 前十字靭帯［ぜんじゅうじじんたい］. posterior cruciate ligament: 後十字靭帯［こうじゅうじじんたい］.
